Who can sign for medication, how the competency check blocks or warns, and how to keep competencies current.
Before you begin
- Your role can verify credentials, or view medication.
How the competency check works
- Before anyone signs a dose, CompanionAxis checks they hold a current Medication Competency credential (renewed every 24 months under the reference data).
- Some medicines need more: your organisation can require extra credential types for high-risk medicines, a high-risk category (insulin, anticoagulant, opioid, rescue antiepileptic) or a route.
- Missing or expired: the dose is blocked by default. Expiring within 30 days: allowed with a warning.
- The second checker for a high-risk medicine needs a current competency too.
Record a worker’s competency
- The worker uploads their evidence from their profile in the support worker app (Credentials), or HR adds it.
- Go to Team → Screening and credentials and open To verify.
- Select Review on the credential, check the evidence and expiry date, and select Verify.
Check who can administer
- Go to Care → Medication and eMAR. Competencies expiring or expired counts workers whose competency has expired or expires within 30 days; select it to open the credentials page.
- When recording a dose, the panel shows Competency check passed, a warning with the expiry date, or a red callout saying the worker cannot sign this dose with links to View worker and Credentials.
Tips
- Your organisation can switch the check to warn instead of block; warnings are still recorded on the dose.
If something goes wrong
A worker with a certificate is still blocked.
The credential must be verified and current on the day. Check it is not still Pending verification.
