Medication and eMAR

Every dose given, recorded and accounted for

From the medication chart to the worker’s phone and back to your audit.

Workers see exactly what is due, for whom and when, and missed or refused doses never go unnoticed. The medication chart drives an eMAR on the support worker app, PRN use is followed up for effect, and only workers with a current medication competency can sign for a dose.

What changes for you

Missed doses are caught on the day

A dose not signed for within its window, or refused, escalates to the team leader straight away instead of surfacing in next month’s audit.

Only competent workers administer

Workers without a current medication competency cannot sign for a dose, so your Practice Standards obligations are enforced at the point of care.

Medication audits from live records

Administration, stock counts, PRN use and medication incidents sit in one place, so audits and reviews run on real records, not paper charts.

From chart to signed dose

  1. Step 1Chart entered

Prescriber’s or pharmacy chart uploaded and medications set up.

  2. Step 2Schedule generated

Due doses appear on the shift for the participant.

  3. Step 3Competency checked

Only workers with a current medication competency can sign.

  4. Step 4Dose recorded

Given, refused or withheld with a reason; PRN effect followed up.

  5. Step 5Exceptions escalated

Missed and refused doses alert the team leader; errors become incidents.

Know why every PRN was given and whether it worked

PRN medication needs more than a signature. The worker records the reason, the dose and the time; the app checks the minimum interval and daily maximum from the chart, then prompts for the effect later in the shift. Where a PRN is used as a chemical restraint, it is recorded against the restrictive practice register as well.

Questions buyers ask

Do we enter medications ourselves or does the pharmacy?

Your team enters medications from the prescriber’s or pharmacy chart and attaches the chart to the participant record. A second person can check the entry before it goes live.

What happens if a worker without a medication competency is on shift?

They can see the eMAR but cannot sign for a dose. The team leader is alerted so a competent worker can administer, and the gap is visible in your credential reports.

Does it work with Webster-paks?

Yes. Medications supplied in Webster-paks or other blister packs are recorded by pack and slot, and workers sign for the slot they give.
