Sign for scheduled doses on the eMAR from the app, the web round board or the house tablet, with the five rights and second checks.
Before you begin
- You hold a current medication competency.
- You are on shift with the participant, and their medicines are charted.
Record a dose in the app
- Open your shift and tap Medication in the quick actions (or Open eMAR on the person’s Health tab, or Record in Before you clock out).
- If the shift has more than one participant, tap the person at the top. The screen shows Given today and Still due, then doses grouped by time.
- Tap a due dose. The Record dose sheet shows the Dose, Due time and Instructions.
- Leave the outcome on Given and tick each of the five rights: Right person, Right medicine, Right dose, Right time, Right route.
- For a dose aid medicine, tick Dose aid slot signed. For a high-risk medicine, a coworker on the shift checks with you and enters their PIN under High-risk medicine: second check.
- Tap Record as given. The dose shows Given with the time.
Record a dose on the web
- Go to Care → Medication and eMAR. The Medication round tab shows the Round board: one row per person, one column per round.
- Pick a house chip (or Community) and Today or Yesterday.
- Select a due or overdue dose. The Record dose panel opens with the medicine, dose and route, prescriber, pack and whether it is high-risk.
- Check the competency callout, keep Outcome on Given, and tick Right person, medicine, dose, route and time checked. For dose aids also tick the slot box.
- For a high-risk medicine, choose the Second checker and Check method, and have them enter Second checker’s PIN.
- Select Save as given. The message reads “Dose signed on the eMAR”.
On the house tablet
- Sign in with your PIN and open Medication. The round lists every dose due now.
- Tap a dose, choose the Outcome and tap Record. For a high-risk medicine, tap Second check and record, pick who is checking and have them enter their PIN.
Recording for someone else
- Team leaders and nurses can choose Record for a worker in Who gave it, pick the Worker who gave it and How it was confirmed (Paper record (back-fill) or Confirmed by phone, with Confirmed with).
Tips
- Doses can be given from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after the due time by default; after that the dose shows Overdue and escalates.
- With no signal, the app saves the dose and marks it saved offline until it syncs. If someone recorded the same dose elsewhere, yours goes to Pending review.
If something goes wrong
“Medication competency needed: Your medication competency has expired / isn’t on file”.
You can’t sign until a current competency is verified. Ask a team leader or nurse to give the dose, and see who can administer.
“Not on shift with this participant”.
You can record doses only for people you are on shift with (30 minutes either side by default). A team leader can record it on your behalf after confirming by phone.
“High-risk medicines need a second checker” or “The second checker’s PIN didn’t match.”
Choose a different worker who holds a current competency and have them re-enter their PIN.
“Dose cancelled: This dose was cancelled after a chart change.”
The chart changed. Check the current chart before giving anything.
