Get the CompanionAxis app onto a support worker’s phone, accept the invitation, sign in for the first time and turn on the permissions the app needs to work.
Before you begin
- Your organisation has invited you. You will get an email with an invitation link (and, for new staff, an onboarding link first).
- An iPhone or Android phone with a mobile data plan, and the email address your organisation uses for you.
Complete onboarding if you were sent a joining link
New staff are often sent a joining link before they have an account.
- Open the joining link on your phone. The screen reads Join and your organisation’s name.
- Tick the box to say you’ve read how your organisation handles your information, then continue.
- Work through the steps your organisation chose: your details, photos of your checks and certificates, policies (select I’ve read this for each), your agreement (type your full name to sign) and when you can usually work.
- Submit. The screen reads You’re all done. An administrator checks your documents, then your app invitation arrives by email.
This takes about 15 minutes. You can stop and come back with the same link.
Install the app and accept your invitation
- Install the CompanionAxis app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
- Open the invitation email on your phone and tap the link. The app opens on Join and your organisation’s name.
- Check your email address, enter Your name and choose a password.
- Tick I accept the CompanionAxis terms of use and privacy policy and continue.
- On the welcome screen, tap Sign in.
- Enter your Email. The app decides the next step: Enter your password, Email me a sign-in link instead, or Use single sign-on if your organisation uses it.
- If your organisation requires two-step sign-in, follow Set up two-step sign-in: add CompanionAxis to an authenticator app and enter the Code from the app. Save your recovery codes.
- If you work for more than one organisation, choose one on Choose an organisation. You can switch later from your profile.
Allow location and notifications
- When the app asks, allow notifications so you hear about new shifts, changes, cancellations, reminders and open shifts.
- When you first clock in, allow location. The app uses it to confirm you are at the shift.
- If you said no earlier, the clock-in screen shows Open settings so you can turn location on for CompanionAxis.
Check you are set up
- The app opens on Today, with Roster, People and More along the bottom.
- Tap your picture at the top, then check On this phone: Connection should read Online and Last sync should show a time.
- Coordinators can see the number of active phones on Roster → Support worker app under Active devices.
Tips
- Use the same email address your organisation has on file; the app can’t find your account under a different one.
- If the app says an update is required, tap the button to open the App Store or Google Play and update before signing in.
If something goes wrong
The invitation link has expired or doesn’t work
Links work once and for a limited time. Ask your coordinator to resend the invitation from Team → Invites and onboarding.
The app says “Set it up on the CompanionAxis website, then sign in here again.”
Your organisation requires two-step sign-in and it has to be set up in a web browser first. Sign in on the website, set it up, then sign in to the app again.
The app keeps asking for location or shows “No location”
Turn location on for CompanionAxis in your phone’s settings (choose While using the app or Precise location). You can still clock in with a reason.
